You have your new full fibre Giganet broadband package and Giganet Home Phone, but you want to ensure that your phones around your home and copprer extension wiring can operate on the Giganet Home Phone service.
Previously with your BT or Virgin landline, you may have extension wiring that connects the main copper landline to various extensions in your home, such as your kitchen, bedroom, living room, and any other rooms. When someone rang your landline number, all phones rang.
Giganet Home Phone doesn't work with your old copper extension cabling
Giganet's Home Phone service operates via the full fibre connection and provides an analogue telephone port on the read of the Giganet router.
There is no link to the existing copper extension wiring in your home.
There is currently no supported way that we can connect our Home Phone service to your old copper extension wiring.
Recommended Alternate Solution - DECT cordless phones
The simplest option to retain various phones around your home is to switch from hard cabled phones to a cordless DECT system.
Most modern DECT systems would be able to provide a strong enough signal such that a single DECT base station will cover all the main rooms of your home, and a portion of your outside space.
For larger homes, or complex arrangements where a single base station doesn't reach, there may be DECT systems available that have repeater/booster options.
Most electrical retails/Amazon/ecommerce websites are able to provide DECT cordless solutions. There are options with answerphones, directories and other features.
Advantages of DECT cordless compared to hard wired extensions:
- Freedom to move around your home whilst on the phone
- Ability to locate phones wherever you want, you are not limited by copper extension wiring
There of course are a few drawbacks, including:
- DECT phones will not work in the event of a power outage, as the main DECT base station is mains powered. You need to ensure that you have an alternate means to contact the emergency services in the event of a broadband or power outage.
- The cost to install them
- For larger homes, or complex layouts, a single DECT base station may not provide coverage. You may be able to find a DECT solution that has a repeater.
