In some cases customers may noticed increased latency on their National UltraBEAM full fibre broadband connections compared to a previous broadband connection they may have had.
This is due to your full fibre connection routing via the Manchester point of presence (POP) rather than the London POP.
This can usually be resolved with a routing change to switch you to London.
Please contact us so we can investigate.
There is no guarantee that the re-route will fix the issue, or that the re-route is available (for example if your connection already routes directly to London).
Example National UltraBEAM base level latency change after re-route
- 18ms before
- 6ms after
- 66% reduction.
The above is a test from our core network monitoring server to the customer's router.
Important Considerations
- The re-route is where obviously the latency may be elevated above what you'd expect for the type of connection and proximity to our core network in London.
- For example, if you are based in Inverness, and your latency is 18 milliseconds (ms), then this would be typical of your location.
- However, if you are located in North Wales, and your latency is 18ms, then this would be considered elevated, and we can investigate whether we can re-route the circuit to improve.
