If you already have a working full fibre broadband service using the Openreach infrastructure, then we may be able to migrate your service to our network.
A Giganet Full Fibre service can be provided from 11 working days after your order, assuming:
- The Openreach ONT is connected.
- The LOS light on the ONT is not red.
- The ONT is powered on.
- The ONT is not damaged.
- Your previous broadband provider do not delay your "leave" request
If any of the above are compromised, then there may be a delay in provisioning your service, and an engineering visit may be required to investigate and resolve.
We shall post our router (unless you opt out of our router), and this simply needs to connect to the full fibre ONT (shown below), and you'll be online on the date of activation.
Who can migrate?
Customers with an existing live FTTP full-fibre broadband connection on Openreach can migrate to Giganet's UltraBEAM FTTP full-fibre service. If your broadband supplier is BT, TalkTalk or Sky (to name a few), then they also use Openreach and therefore you can migrate to Giganet.
Another way to check, is f you have an Openreach-branded Optical Network Termination (ONT) box within your property? If so, then you can migrate. Two different Openreach ONTs are shown below.
Migration will have the effect of automatically cancelling your previous service once you have migrated to Giganet.
IMPORTANT: For a successful migration, and to ensure the minimum disruption to a working broadband service, DO NOT cancel your existing broadband service before your migration has completed and leave your ONT powered on. If you request a cancellation beforehand, then we will be unable to place the migration order.
FAQs
What isn't a migration
- If you have a copper-based Openreach service, such as ADSL/FTTC/G.Fast
- If you are on a network provider other than Openreach, e.g. Virgin Media, CityFibre, Gigaclear, Hyperoptic etc.
For these types of connections, we class these as new provides. What this means is that we'll install the new Giganet UltraBEAM FTTP service alongside your existing connection. Once it's installed and you are satisfied, you can request to cancel your existing connection.
Lead time for migrations
There is a 11 working day lead time for migrations from the date of your order assuming the ONT is powered on and can be migrated to our service, and your existing provider do not delay the migration.
What your existing broadband provider should do after you place your migration order with Giganet
Once Giganet places the order with Openreach for the migration, your exiting broadband provider will receive a notification. They will then E-mail or write to you advising about the migration, what services will cancel, which services will remain, and your final bill which may include any early termination charges if you are moving within your original minimum contract period.
What happens on the day of migration
On the date of migration that we advise, your full-fibre broadband service will transition automatically from your existing provider to Giganet at some point during the day. We cannot provide an exact time, but usually this will be shortly after midnight.
Naturally you will need to use the new Giganet router once the migration has completed behind the scenes.
You may find that your existing service continues to function, however this doesn't necessarily mean that the migration has not taken place.
We advise you to replace your existing broadband router for the Giganet provided one on the date of migration. If the Internet light lights up on the Giganet router, then you are all moved across. If the migration hasn't completed yet, re-connect your old router if you still need a working connection and try again later.
Problems on the migration date
- The migration may not complete until later in the date. Please check later in the day.
- Ensure that you have correctly connected the new Giganet router to the Openreach fibre ONT and your hard-cabled devices, and your old router has been completely disconnected and powered off so as not to conflict.
- Ensure that you are using the new Giganet WiFi router name (SSID) on your devices and have updated this on all your Wi-Fi connected devices (laptops, tablets, mobiles, IoT connected home devices).
- If you have an older style Openreach ONT, ensure that you are connecting the Giganet router to port 1 on the ONT and replacing your old router's connection.
