In line with most other broadband providers, Giganet operates a Fair and Acceptable Usage Policy.
Our latest current Terms and Conditions for Residential Services can be found here which enclose the fair usage policy elements.
Data usage limits
Giganet does not operate with a hard "set in stone" limit.
However, subject to 6.1 of our Terms and Conditions for Residential Services, we state:
You must use the services in good faith and in line with what would
generally be considered to be typical usage for the type of service.
What this means in respect to data usage, is that you maintain your usage within the boundaries of what typically would be used by a residential broadband customer.
We also state in 15.7:
You acknowledge and agree that our resources, used in providing the
services, are limited and that any reckless or wasteful use of the
services by you may affect those resources and the services provided
to our other customers. You agree that we may suspend or terminate your
access to the services where we decide, acting reasonably, that you are
using the services in a reckless or wasteful manner.
Therefore, if your data usage is showing signs that you are:
- using the connection to operate and support a business larger than a micro business (1-9 employees)
- hosting servers not for your own personal or family usage
- sharing your connection with third parties outside of your property
- downloading or uploading data over the service for no good reason (e.g. stress testing the service (apart from permitted occasional broadband speed tests), or downloading/uploading files only to delete the transfer)
Then we will advise you to change your usage in line with what would be deemed typical usage for the type of service.
If you fail to make adjustments within 7 days of being notified, then we reserve the right to suspend your service and issue early termination charges.
Other prohibited activities
